"Knowledge is Power, Knowledge is Pride." This statement is the founding principle behind Asians in America (AIA). Our sole purpose is to be a central source of information for all things of interest to people of Asian Pacific descent living in the United States.
When AIA was first concieved in 1999, it was to be nothing more than an online directory of Asian Pacific American (APA) organizations. But as the idea took shape, it became evident that AIA could and should be much more.
With the lack of a central source for news on the APA community and the need for a national bulletin board and calendar for events and announcements, it was decided that AIA will try to fullfill these needs as well as it's original purpose as a directory.
In April 2002, The Asians in America Project was launched with a small roster of volunteer writers, researchers and webmasters. Now with several hundred articles, organizations listings, news links and other items, AIA celebrates 5 years and renews it's mission to provide information to our community.
Our goal is to become the most comprehensive source of information on Asian Pacific America. And in so doing, build community, empower ourselves and increase awareness of Asian Pacific American issues.
