Flipped Switch Premieres

Press Release | July 17, 2008

Choflip_3Malinius has launched its new series FLIPPED SWITCH, an online experience that’s part talk show and part melodramatic sitcom.

It's first episode features the stars of the smash Harold & Kumar movies, John Cho (“Better Luck Tomorrow” and the upcoming "Star Trek”) and Neil Patrick Harris (“How I Met Your Mother” and “Doogie Howser, M.D.”).

Flipped Switch features a group of friends trying to produce a talk show while hoping to avoid backstage drama. Its mix of real interviews and comedy vignettes-- some improvised and others scripted, create a fast-paced format that internet viewers will undoubtedly enjoy.

Flipped Switch is available online at http://www.flippedswitch.com
as well as YouTube, Revver, MySpace, and Facebook. Malinius also plans to make the show available on iTunes.

The show features creator/host Edward J. Mallillin (writer/director of the feature film “Brown Soup Thing”), his close friend and co-host Cheryl Noe (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), and comedian Earl Baylon, who never seems to have anything to do on the set. The cast members essentially act as themselves— starving artists trying to promote their projects and get through a normal day.

“We aim to interest not just Asians or Asian Americans, but also their different ethnic friends,” noted Mallillin. The host also believes many viewers will see Flipped Switch as a mix of sketch comedy and sit-down interview, with elements of “The Muppet Show,” Larry Sanders, and the ensemble feel of “The Andy Griffith Show” thrown-in. “We definitely have variety, but ultimately we hope to be entertaining and informative,” Mallillin added.

With a dozen episodes already completed, future Flipped Switch shows will feature writer/director Quentin Tarantino (“Pulp Fiction”), international superstar Stephen Chow (“Kung Fu Hustle”), comedian Bobby Lee, the Black Eyed Peas’ Apl.de.ap, dance troupe the Jabbawockeez, legendary Mixed Martial Arts fighter Randy Couture, and the stars of the Chinese-American indie smash “Saving Face,” Lynn Chen and Michelle Krusiec.

The cast regulars worked together previously on Mallillin’s feature comedy “Brown Soup Thing,” set to begin its international festival tour next month. Their familiar faces will be shown worldwide online in new episodes, premiering every two weeks. “I think that the show’s quick, short format will appeal to a lot of the internet generation,” noted Baylon, a popular comedian in California. “They, like me, have no attention span and love to -- oh, look! A shiny new coin…”

With a growing population in the United States of people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, as well as America's increasing fascination with Eastern culture in general, Flipped Switch is poised to serve a large audience eager for new and original entertainment and information.
